"Why are you doing this?" he cried, shielding his face with his blood-covered hand, as if that could stop me from saying it, from the green light bursting forth from the tip of my wand. A cold, sharp laugh burst forth from my mouth. "You wouldn't understand. You love that school. You love the scraps of magic they feed you there. You love the lies they tell you." "They're not lying!" He actually seemed a bit angry, this time. He even dropped his hand to glare at me. "Just because they don't teach you /murder/ and /torture/ doesn't make them liars!" I couldn't help it. The anger bubbled up inside of me. "Crucio!" He screamed, but I smiled. "You know how I was expelled?" I said; my voice was low and harsh. "You know why they made me leave?" I paused. I knew I was about to do that terrible monologuing thing villains always do in movies, but I couldn't help it. I needed to be seen. I needed to be understood, if only for a moment... "Because some rich pureblood family paid them to blame someone else. And you know what that school did? They took the money and looked the other way as my wand was snapped and my life snatched away from me." He looked up at me, his brown eyes softer. What a soft-hearted fool, he was. "I didn't know." "Of course you didn't," I scoffed. "Why would someone as high and mighty as you care about the plight of a mudblood?" "Because we're not all bad," he insisted. "I'll...I'll help you." I raised an eyebrow. "You'll help me?" "Yes! I'll prove it to you." "Funny thing for someone to say to the person who just tortured them." Nonetheless, I accepted his invitation. It felt good to be seen, to be understood... I didn't know then. I didn't know that he didn't see me as someone to be helped. He didn't even see me as someone to fear. He only saw me in a pawn in his dirty little game. The last words he ever said to me were, "You're pretty trusting for a cold-blooded villain." Wait, no, that's wrong...The last word he said to me was "Stupefy!" Now I'm in Azkaban, wondering how much soul I have left. I guess they didn't even need dementors to take mine.
