Hi! I’m Randy or Ace, a longtime member and manager of the Gaehive branch off studio RPHive. Here’s the beginner’s guide to just about everything you need to know upon entering RPHive for the first time. It’s also just here in case you need a refresher. FIRST THING TO KNOW — Roleplaying Style In RPHive, the most common format of roleplay is to create an account and post comments as that character, with actions featured in either (most commonly; not always) brackets ([]) or asterisks (**). Dialogue is unmarked, and comments are formatted like this: “ hello! [action] ”. Another commonly used format is roleplaying on a main account with a symbol or something like that to represent a character speaking. It is usually written in the same way as what I used above, just with its symbol usually found in the beginning of the comment. However, all formats of roleplay are welcome! Roleplays are usually narrated in the third person in present tense, but again, all formats are welcome to be used. SECOND THING — Lore Lore is a very large part of RPHive, and can be hard to understand due to multiple different storylines going on. If you interact with enough characters and find out enough about their storylines involving other characters, you can find out the basic gist of the lore, but if you aren’t piecing it together, a manager or longtime member can explain! Lore also may come from characters’ source material and backstory, which can be hard to decipher if you haven’t seen/read/listened to the source material, but again, the roleplayer will most likely be able to explain. THIRD THING — Rules In RPHive, we adopt most of our rules from MainHive. Due to this being a roleplay studio, though, we do have some rules that are exclusive to RPHive—they can be found in detail in the studio description or at https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/972431540. Remember to always follow these rules when being in the studio and to remain kind and respectful to fellow roleplayers. If a roleplay plot or another roleplayer is making you uncomfortable, please report it to a manager, and we’ll handle the issue. FOURTH THING — Characters and Media RPHive is a multifandom roleplay, with characters coming from all sorts of different media. We allow characters from almost any media, as long as it has not been directly banned by the ST. Media like Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are on very thin ice or possibly outright banned for this reason. If a roleplayer is uncomfortable/triggered by the media your character comes from, managers will handle the issue. If certain aspects that define your character are inappropriate or against the CGs, that character may have to go out of use. Remember that proper representation is very important. Avoid stereotyping/misrepresentation at all costs. FIFTH THING — OOC Etiquette Hate the character, not the roleplayer. It doesn’t matter if your character dislikes someone else’s character, you always must be respectful to other roleplayers OOC. There are real people with feelings behind every character, no matter how awful a character may be. Try not to take insults/hatred IC too far either—there’s a point where enough rudeness IC is enough, and you can keep the rudeness to that point. FINALLY — Questions and Concerns Here I’ll answer any questions that I have not already answered in the guide. Ask in the comments and I’ll get to them as soon as possible!
