I start to feel a bit more sure of myself. "Aren't you SOOOOOOOO excited to find out what your spirit talent is?" Asher bounces up and down in excitement. "... ...Yeah I guess. But what if... I get a useless one?" I reply, looking down at my paws. "Don't jinx it!" he laughs. I smile faintly as we step forward. My stomach does a trapeze swing, a cannonball and a leap into the pool of nervousness. "If you have butterflies in your stomach, get them to fly in formation." Asher whispers in my ear. With a deep breath, I hold out my paw. As I touch the crystal before me, I feel a thrumming in my heart. A soft blue glow travels from my body to the gem, and the object lights up. I can feel something beneath my fur straining to come out. And I let it. Energy flows through my paw and a snake made out of mist floats above me. "Oh. The Mystic Moonsnake." Asher sighs. The Mystic Moonsnake was considered one of the most ordinary spirit talents in the entire Midnight Island. I shrug and pull my jacket a bit tighter around my fur. Asher puts his paw on the crystal, and a little flame rises above his head. "Pyro Sphere," he shouted practically into my ear. My eardrum doesn't burst. It explodes. "Oh, sorry." Asher apologizes. We begin to walk back to our condo and head to our respective apartments. I groan. ~Parental supervision~, I think. "ECLYPSE!" I hear my name being screamed. Usually at 5 a.m. in the morning, hearing my name being screamed is no big deal. It's usually my parents calling me to exterminate cockroaches or my sister waking me up to play card games for whatever reason. But this is a scream of pure horror. I jolt awake, leaping out of bed in a split second and scanning my surroundings for danger. I spot it immediately. Flames are licking my curtains and heat is blowing at my face like the smell of peanut butter cups at breakfast. Actually, no. Sorry it isn't. Fire isn't delicious. "Get out of the house! It's on fire!" I hear voices as I bolt out of the door. I can see Asher sprinting towards me from another block. "Run! NOW! Make this count, Eclypse!" my brother shouts. ~Don't quote Needletail's death to me! You know she's my favourite character!~ I think as I follow my friend and dash out from the condominium not knowing where I even go. cₕₐₚₜₑᵣ ₂ I (somehow) end up in a forest brimming with energy. I turn and see Asher. "You.. you made it," I pant. "But couldn't we have flown here instead?" I add pointing to my wings, then his. A wry smile crosses his face. "Yeah. Why didn't I think of that?" A loud rolling sound erupts behind us. Asher whirls around trying to do some sort of Kirlia impression and fails miserably. I keep silent and don't even turn my body or twitch my tail. Only after something rolls over to me then I blink once. Not something. A few somethings. Plural. Two little cactus-like balls stop right in front of me after Asher gets up. The cacti-balls are glowing with light: one blue and one orange. "Ohhhhhh my lucky marshmallows. Are those... Sunstar pearls?!" I hear an audible gasp behind me. I slowly nod, not breathing. Asher says, "If we manage to at least kind-of subdue one, we'll absorb one spirit shard and also get a new power for our spirit talent," He pelts past me and breathes a stream of fire towards the orange Sunstar pearl. I watch incredulously as the pearl's spikes swing around and knock the flames back. A little orb of fire above Asher's head flares and he conjures some more fire, engulfing the spiky gem in heat. The Sunstar pearl recoils and a bit of its spikes smoke, but remains fine. I look on as Asher and the pearl fight. After 1, 025, 360 skips on my skipping rope (breaking the world record unofficially), the pearl topples over and leaves behind a shining orange shard hanging in midair. Asher touches it and immediately closes his eyes as it melts into dust and enters his heart. After a few moments, he opens his eyes. Asher spreads his wings and looks up at the rising sun. I see his eyes glow and shoot out a beam of hot orange light.
