It was the day that Coraline went off to her fancy new boarding school. Whoopee big deal. Feuiya wouldn't even show up. Her sister wouldn't care. Neither would anyone else. They had all forgotten Feuiya's exsistence in all the big stupid parties and all the big stupid speachil presents and what not. Feuiya just simply sat in the backyard on the rope swing, listening to all the long-goodbyes and everyone bid farewell. Blah, blah, blah. It was all just some dumb nonsense!! If Feuiya hadn't shown up for dinner last night, they probably wouldn't even have left her a plate! Soon, the whole thing would blow over and Feuiya would finally exist once again this time with no Coraline to argue with her over Grove's and great-great-great grandpa Spark's story. Her parents believed it! Uncle Fergo believed it! Feuiya kicked the dirt at her feet for a few moments before her ears perked up at the sound of the taxi car driving away. Feuiya sighed. //Finally.// She jumped off the rope swing and quietly padded inside. Her mom walked up to her. "Why weren't you over there saying goodbye to your sister? She was looking all over for you!" Feuiya rolled her eyes. "Surprised she even remembered me." She mumbled. Her mom brushed a bit of fur out of Feuiya's face, but she flinched away and stormed to her room. "No one cares about me anymore! Not even stupid what's-her-name!" Her mom reached out for her, but Feuiya slammed the door shut. She kicked aside the broken glass from the picture frame she had knocken over last night and climbed up to the top bunk. All of this was stupid. Why couldn't Coraline just stay?!?! She didn't know what it was like to be alone! Feuiya grabbed her sketchbook and wrote in it over and over again: "I won't miss her, I won't miss her, I won't miss her" as many times as she could to make herself believe it. After filling up a few pages, she snapped it shut. //There, that should be enough!// She thought. //It ought to sink in now!// But it never did. No matter how much Feuiya tried, her heart could never believe that she wouldn't miss her.
Coraline had scanned the crowd, even called out as loudly as she could for Feuiya. But she never came. Coraline stared at her home as the taxi sped away. She couldn't understand why Feuiya hated her for this! Why couldn't she just accept that Coraline had a better chance and move on?! Coraline looked at her paws as a tear fell down to touch them. Coraline shook her head and looked at the wall seperating her and the taxi driver. Was their relationship like that? A wall? Coraline used to be able to climb over it whenever she liked, but now the wall had gotten taller and wider and covered in thorns. Coraline lifted the tear off her paws and made it into a the shape of a little fireball and made it spin around for a moment or two before she let it drop. Then it sunk in. Feuiya was afraid of being left behind. Afraid of being alone, forgotten. Like the little baby bird their mother had always described her as. Maybe their mother hadn't realized it, but baby birds were flightless, unable to soar through the skies and touch the clouds like everyone else and fly with the flock. Feuiya was that flightless little bird, and Coraline was the flock, leaving her behind. Coraline felt a rush of anger at herself. Why did she need to past that test?! Why couldn't she just go back to the way it was, playing Survive the Elements with Feuiya all day?! She stared outside the window, thinking of a way to get Feuiya back, but nothing came to mind. Why couldn't her smartness be useful for once?! Coraline sighed and let tears run down her cheek as she remembered the last thing her sister had said to her: "Fire and Water don't mix anyways."
