Click the Flag Yes it's not a comic, it was going to be but I decided against it. The first pause is just a short break, it is somewhat important to the story, at least the starting conflict. If you chose the red button: THE GADGET TRAGEDY CHAPTER 1 I awoke in a dull, grey box. Metal bars lined one wall, separating me from a room outside of my cramped stone prison. When my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I noticed two figures in the adjacent room. Twolegs, I concluded from their scents and silhouettes. “Sir, the cat is awake,” one said. “Give him another round of sedatives. He shouldn't be awake already.” the slightly taller twoleg replied. The shorter one walked over to the box I was in. He pulled on a leather glove and grabbed a syringe. He opened the cage and stuck his hand in to stick it in me. I tried to scratch him, but he managed to move his hand and sedate me. As my consciousness started to fade from my grasp, I heard him tell the lead twoleg four words that chilled me to my core, even in my fading state. “Let's begin the surgery.” Some time later, what could have been hours or even days later, I opened my eyes. But I couldn't feel my eyes open. It just happened. I found everything was fuzzy. Even the moments I was last awake were fading slowly… wait, now I don't even remember what happened. I saw I was in a dimly lit room, with many rectangular objects with various things displayed. I looked down. I saw thin, different colored wires all around my body. But my body looked different. It wasn't the fuzzy one I remember. The fur was now more metallic, like optical fiber, but without the lights. And there was something about my head that felt heavier… I lifted my head and saw the shorter of the twolegs looking at me. “Ah, you're awake now. And didn't perish! Finally success, and it only took three tries! And now my boss and I can make millions off of this method of immortality.” He rambled on about hijacking the emotions of people who have pets and making it so their animals never die, and was about to continue when the taller twoleg, who I figured must be the boss or leader, came in with a panicked look on his face. “Come on, the subject in 5A is crashing, and the other scientists need more help with getting them stable!” They both ran out of the room, locking the door behind them. Now to get out of this place. I struggled a lot, and managed to break out of some of the wires. As the last one broke, I fell to the ground. I expected the breath to be knocked out of my lungs, but it wasn't. Now that I thought about it, I wasn't breathing at all. I panicked a bit, was I dead? I felt the fall so I must not be, but then nobody ever told me you can't get hurt after you die. I looked around the room. A mirror or something reflective is all I needed. I felt something must not be quite right. That was when I noticed it. My shadow was on the wall, cast from one of the screens on a table. I looked wrong. There was a rectangle-like shape where my head was. I tilted my head a bit, and the shadow mimicked the movement. Two bent shapes branched out from the top of my head, not unlike antennae. I sat there for a minute or two, dumbfounded by the impossible sight in front of my eyes. I shook myself out of it. I needed to leave this wretched place. I walked towards a window opposite the door, on the wall to the right of where my cage was bored into the wall. I extended my claws and cut through the fiber easier than I should have. I wasn't even surprised. They have done so much to change me. The light was unbearable. I closed my eyes, or for all I know some other creation installed in the screen on my face. I slowly opened them back up to let them adjust. I was about to try to cut the glass open when I heard the doorknob turn behind me.
