"knee shoe water shao a shao pingu" congratulations! you're so quirky for making fun of the chinese language. i wonder, do you ever make fun of lyric in k-pop or j-pop? "what, no! that would be so racist! after all, i don't even speak the language." ... it's funny that this is basically how it is. that chinese as a language, culture, and as a whole gets made fun of. let's think of it like this. a foreigner starts learning chinese, which is obviously really hard since a lot of pronounciations (like j, q, x, z, ü) don't really exist in english or are hard to explain. would it be "funny" for a chinese person to imitate their accent? to clown the way they pronounce chinese words? of course not. that's so harsh and uncalled for. they're just trying to learn the language, why would you make fun of them? so why is it so normalized to mock a "chinese accent", to mock chinese people learning english? because of how normalized racism is. it's annoying that people think our only music is children's songs and chinese new year music. would it be fair to say that all american music sounds like 'yeehaw i'm a cowboy'? would it be fair to assume that all korean music is 'oppa gangnum style'? prejudice against chinese people is so integrated into our society we don't even think about it. racism still exists, no matter how much we deny it. it's just more normalized and less violent, that's all. but we all know that words can hurt just as much- sometimes more than- a punch. "knee shoe water shao a shao pingu" is basically a watered down version of "chinese, cantonese, japanese, look at these dirty knees". you're not funny.
