Greyson stretches his arm out and helps me to my feet, “So Autumn, tell me a bit about yourself.” He says, his eyes sparkle as they study me. ”What do you want to know?” I reply with a sly smile, glancing behind me to meet Finn’s eyes and a smirk. “Name, age, favorite color, I don’t know,” Greyson says scratching his neck, “something?” ”My name is Autumn, I’m sixteen years old and would very much like to be in bed right now.” I glance at my watch, the display reads 9:02, “if I really do have to come back here tomorrow, assuming this isn’t a dream, I’d like to be asleep right now.” Greyson laughs and looks back at Finn who shrugs and replies, “At least she has her priorities straight.” I can’t help but hold back a smile, Greyson looks back at Finn, “I can walk her home.” Finn flashes a concerned look, “I can help-“ “No,” Greyson adds, “I got it, if I’m the one saving her butt as much as I think I will, I think I can handle walking her home. Finn looks at him, then at me beforing muttering, “Fine, be careful,” he looks at me, “see you tomorrow,” he starts walking away but before leaving the hanger he yells “sweet dreams!” Flashes back a smile then exits, Greyson sighs. “Excited, yeah?” He asks me while leading me out of the hanger onto a dirt path. “Uh, sure,” I reply. Around me bright, luscious green trees tower over me and fireflies’ glow hover over a dark field. The school’s shadow taunts me in the near distance, the castle-like structure is beautiful and the architecture is truly wonderous. I remember all the kids from yesterday staring at me and whispering to each other, probably saying I didn’t belong. They aren’t wrong, I don’t belong here, not in this world I’ve sudddenly been sucked into, will I ever belong here? Greyson must’ve read my concerned look before stopping and asking, “You okay?” Unaware of the scared trance I’ve been stuck in I snap out of it and meet his worrried expression, “Yeah, sure, um, just nervous for tommorow, kinda nervous in general for this.” I say, gesturing to the school. ”Look,” he says, “you have absolutely nothing to be afraid about, besides maybe the seniors,” he nudges my arm and I flash a scared look, his smile dims, “I’m just kidding darling,” he places his hand on my back and guides me down the dirt path further. “I’m your protector, he says softly, nothing is going to harm you, I’ll show you around, you have nothing to be scared about. The kids there are welcoming, they understand the position your in Autumn.” We arrive at my doorstep, “Promise?” I ask. ”Cross my heart,” Greyson smirks, “that’s how it goes right?” “Yeah,” I smile, “thanks for walking me back.” “Of course, see you here tomorrow at eight?” I nod and go to open the door, “night Autumn,” he says tipping an invisible hat and strolling off, I shut the door behind me. This definitely isn’t a dream. My eyes flutter open and slowly adjust to the light, the display on my clock slowly comes into focus reading 7:42am. “Shoot!” I yell falling out of bed. I stagger to the bathroom, knock over things in my path, and splash my face with cool water from the sink faucet. I grab my phone and check the time, already 7:45, I have fifteen minutes before Greyson arrives, taking me to Everlore for my first day. Butterflies nervously flutter in my stomach and I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. I brush the long, dirty blonde strands of my hair then wrap them into a messy bun, emphasizing on messy. I brush my teeth vigorously and dash into my closet pulling out jean shorts and a comfy, oversized sweatshirt. After falling trying to put on my shorts, I grab my tote bag with things I think I’ll need for today. Pencils, notebook, pens, water, what else could you possibly need for a school that teaches magic? “Ding dong” I walk over to the door, after giving my grandparents a good-bye hug and open it. He’s wearing a white button up with an emblem on the side reading “Everlore” and smirks when he sees me. “Was there a uniform I was supposed to know about?” I ask, concerned already. ”Good morning to you too sunshine.” I roll my eyes and force a smile, “Morning,” I say in a fake cheerful tone, take a breath, “Sorry I’m kinda nervous.” “It’s okay darling,” he says, leading me towards a gravel path, “everyone is nervous on their first day.” I don't reply, instead I look ahead and fidget with my bracelets. “So here’s how the day is going to look,” Greyson says,
More below!! “I’ll help you walk your classes, good news is the first week is orientation, so if you’re late it's not that big of a deal. Then you’ll meet your roommate and move in tomorrow, then Wednesday is when you should be all settled in.” “Roommate?” I question, the August breeze messes with my hair and I tuck it behind my eyes. “Man,” Greyson says laughing, “Finn told you nothing. Don’t worry, we already sent a letter to your grandparents and to your school that you used to go to. You’ll have your bed and desk, the rooms are pretty spacious. You share a kitchen and common room with 6 roommates in total.” “Ok,” I say skeptically, “so will I be able to get into college or do I have to go to some special magic one?” “You sure ask a lot of questions,” I give him an annoyed, nervous look and he proceeds to say, “all the normal colleges view Everlore as a private prep school. We still have normal highschool classes but also ones for magic and stuff like that, in case you did want to go to a special magic one.” He tells me, slightly nudging my arm. I’d been so distracted by our conversation that I completely neglected the fact that Everlore came into view. Students were all over the lawns, under the cool shade of trees, chatting with friends, they looked like they fit in. I take a shaky breath before following Greyson in through the main entrance, “Welcome once again,” he says, his eyes glowing “to Everlore.” He takes a small bow and I laugh, grateful to have someone to help me. I'm handed a schedule and dorm assignment, and it’s the start of a new chapter.
