As we live out the remaining 3 weeks and 1 day of being able to play Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games online, I found a bitter discovery and came to a stinging conclusion. While Pretendo servers will do a decent job of recreating Nintendo Network servers, not all games will be available to play online. In fact, most of them won't. Games like Mario Kart 7 and 8 will have online services when we switch to Pretendo, but the most precious online games such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon will not be available to play online, according to the list of games at pretendo.network/progress. Unless stated otherwise by the Pretendo team in the future, most online services in games for the 3DS and Wii U will be not lost, but gone. Forever. It strikes deeply in my heart to say it, but it's the truth. However, even though I was only able to use Nintendo Network for almost 2 years, I am eternally grateful for the unforgettable memories I've made when playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf with my closest Scratch friends, sending silly, funny notes back and forth with my Miiverse friends in Swapdoodle, excitedly catching cool badges in the Badge Arcade (and sometimes raging because of that one badge I couldn't get), and so much more. Nintendo Network may be gone from the outside world itself, but it will never leave my heart. After all, by the words of Gandalf the Grey, "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." All good times start and end, so let's enjoy these last days of 3DS and Wii U online together, and let's continue making sweet, fond memories of it until the very end.
