The most simple plot structure is “somebody wanted but so then”. You start off with a character, that’s your “somebody”. Then you find their motivation, that’s the “wanted”. The “but” is what is preventing them from getting what they want. “So” is what they do in response to the “but”. Finally, “then” marks the aftermath. For a more complicated plot, have the “so” not work perfectly, causing more “buts”. We’ve had our somebodies. Now we have a wanted and a but. The question is just what the “so” and “then” will be.
