Ashton: I've been lying in bed for an hour now, and all I can think about is that boy. His strawberry blond hair, blue eyes, and the fact that he's about a foot taller than me is so infuriating for some reason. As is the fact that he hasn't texted me about my binder yet. "Ash!" I sit up quickly and turn to see my older sibling, Elena standing at my door. "Dinner's ready." They say. Elena's my legal guardian. Our father left us when I was born, and our mother disowned us when she figured out we weren't... normal. Elena's nonbinary, and I'm gay. But it was also because she didn't want to take care of a mute child. So we moved to our current house, which is a state away from our mom's. *Coming.* I sign. She nods and leaves. Suddenly, my phone buzzes. It's a text. From that guy. Colin: I just texted him. I can't believe I texted him. I mean, it's not a big deal. Totally. It's not like I remember him... I remember him. He used to live across the street from me back when we were around 14. I can't believe that was four years ago. He was always so quiet, even when he did talk. I remember when he went mute. It wasn't immediate. He just gradually lost his words. He buried himself in his work, distancing himself from everyone until.. he was just gone. He stopped coming to school, and the few times I went over to his house to drop off homework, he didn't come out of his room. Then he moved in with his sibling. Ah! Right. The text. Me: Hey I still have your binder. Ashton: Yeah, I know. Me: Do you want me to take it to your house since it's Saturday tomorrow? Ashton: Sure I guess. Well, I guess I have something to do tomorrow.
