Full title: mentally-ill girl rambles about mentally-ill things (Sonic Prime rant hdjdjfjdjdj) (some spoilers) “oh Sonic doesn’t care” “Sonic is stupid” “Sonic is just goofing around all this stuff doesn’t matter to him” SHUT UP BC ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME SHOW. Sonic doesnt ‘not care’. In fact he cares, very very much. He’s neurodivergent and being portrayed as such, in a very very accurate way, and it’s harder for him to grasp some things. It takes him a while to catch up to ideas in particular. Like non-physical things. Like when he’s gifted a palm tree, he doesn’t think of the emotional implications behind the fact that he’s being given a gift. He just sees a palm tree, and then treats it more casually than he should have because he doesn’t really GET it. He doesn’t jump in and shatter the Paradox Prism because he doesn’t care. He does it because in his mind, this is the quickest and best way to get it out of Eggman’s hands, and he’s going to do his job and make sure Eggman doesn’t win, everything else comes last in his mind. He doesn’t spin-dash Eggman’s bot and set off that earthquake because he’s stupid. He does it because he’s in the here and now, and Tails just got called a mutant freak and nobody gets to hurt his friends, and he doesn’t think about anything other than ‘he’s right in front of me, I could just spin-dash him right now and teach him a lesson’. He doesn’t think deeper and heed Tails’ warning because that’s not how his brain is wired. His little “huh” when Tails flies away without saying anything to him or celebrating is confused, like it’s just static in his brain trying to figure out exactly why Tails isn’t happy, because the robot’s destroyed and he’s not thinking past that because that not his thought process. Sonic cares. He cares a lot. He knows this is his fault. He knows that he’s the reason everything is broken. Their world is shattered because of him. Nine got the Prism shards because of him, because he trusted him. His friends are gone because of him. He just takes a minute to get there, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter to him. He has to really see something physical to get it to hit home. Nine has to betray him before he really believes it. (space or click to go to the gif I’m gonna be talking about (keep pressing space/clicking to play it)) Okay I’m talking about one scene in particular. Sonic realizes that the friends in the half-baked world Shadow shows him are just as unfinished and fake as the rest of it. And that’s when I think he really, really understands. He has to sit down on a rock and he holds up his hands, the same hands that helped shatter his world, and then of course I was DESTROYED. Because Sonic’s hands are, oh-so-subtly, shaking. That broke me. Because that’s when I think we know without a doubt that Sonic KNOWS. He knows it’s His Fault and that it’s A Lot Worse Than He Thought It Was. And MAN this stupid freakin show is gonna make me cry again holy CRAP anyways thats it thats the rant thank u (also this is YOUR fault i had forgotten abt this show until i was dragged kicking and screaming back into the Sonic fandom >:( /lh)
