I think he's in character info about this tears in the rain: -you meet him in waterfall after you do a no mercy or neutral route (leaving everybody but papyrus alone) -he learns earlier that his brother is gone thanks to the player/human -straight up lies about appealing to emotion because that's what he does for the entire intro -is genuinely aware that the player/human could hurt him, making him actually scared when he's trying to ask his favor (but builds up courage to say the whole thing) no mercy: -he tries evacuating the monsters but runs into you midway through his progress neutral: -he tries talking things out, like fired's TITR, but ends up failing
