Kitsune waited, tail flicking impassively as she stared out the window from the corner of her eyes, making her eyes hurt. She didn’t move a muscle, save her tail, which had a mind of it own when she was nervous, which she unfortunately was at that moment. The clouds below looked like fluffy landmasses, white islands in a sea of blue and occasional flecks of green, but nothing to pinpoint where the jet was taking her and 92 other tributes. To distract herself from the flight, she went over her Interview costume, provided from the same group of stylists she had make her Parade costume. She smiled at that fond memory, oh what a spectacle that had been. Kitsune hoped this costume would be just as amazing as the other. Following the futuristic vibe of her Parade outfit, her Interview costume was comprised of slick, dark-cyan blue armor on the upper and lower parts of her legs, though they didn’t connect in the space around her “elbows”, breaking off into small golden winglike attachments hovering over shoulders that she could control at will, with digital, light blue halos surrounding her “wrists.” Around her middle was a larger digital ring, with four digital light blue wings hovering around it, two on each side. The only armor on her main body was one plate on her back, underneath the glowing blue ring, and four wings in the form of a chest plate below her neck. On her head, she had two long, golden horns, with digital blue undersides, flecked with white specks, with two rings hovering around each. Her stylists had given her contacts to give her eyes the appearance of a digital screen, all black, with only two glowing rings for her irises visible, her left eye was the same blue as the halos around her “wrists”, while the right one was a luminous neon yellow, with two golden digital wings hovering just behind the corner of her eyes. Altogether, when Kitsune gazed in a small mirror her stylists had given her, she looked quite intimidating, commanding, and elegant. When the plane touched down, a few peacekeepers herded everyone out of the jet, and Kitsune was on her feet as soon as the plane was landed, following many others out the door. As she exited the jet, a little shakily, because she had never been on a plane before, let alone a jet, she looked around for any signs of where she was, but it was all wetlands, fog, and marsh. The sky was as white as a skuII, infinite and pale. Kitsune felt like she was under a roof, yet somehow she also felt exposed. Shaking it off, she followed the line of tributes into the unknown The peacekeepers escorted the group of tributes deeper into the marsh, the dense vegetation seeming to move and writhe like a sea of slowly moving snakes, having been asleep for thousands of years, and only now awakened by the jet and tributes, hungry for a meal. Kitsune was not shaken by this. She was not scared of the peacekeepers, either. With their sheer numbers, she was sure if the tributes worked together, they could have overcome the peacekeepers by now. But where would they go? There was nothing but fog and marshy wetlands, reeds and moss, cattails and frogs. Only then did she realize she was walking on solid ground, and snapped out of her daydream to find the fog lifting away, like a curtain, to reveal cameras, lights, some chairs, and an unfamiliar cat standing with a smile so shining, it was like a searchlight. “Welcome!” The cat said, her double rainbow horns shining in the light. “My name is Cinere, niece of the one and only Imperium, and i have the honor to be your interviewer today!” She said, her glowing green eyes full of excitement. ‘I didn’t know Imperium had a niece.’ Kitsune thought, as the first tributes started their ten-minute q&a sessions. Kitsune waited patiently, her ears straining to hear how the other tribute’s interviews were going. Goodness, was that a tribute playing /tag/ with Cinere?! Kitsune shook her head in disbelief. How could anyone be so childish. ‘Probably just an act of childishness.’ Her thoughts told her. ‘But do they realize what a fool of themselves they’re making?’ [no hate on Serenity’s Interview, i promise!] After a spout of digital fire went up, and the buzzer went off, Kitsune watched as Serenity Solstice was marched away. ‘Of course it was her.’ Kitsune thought, tuning out of reality again. Finally, she heard Imperium’s niece call “Kitsune Unami of District 7!” And she made her way to the interviewer. Kitsune looked Cinere all over from the moment she sat down, wanting to commit every detail of Imperium’s niece to memory. “So, your name is Kitsune?” Cinere asked, as Kitsune noticed she was slightly uncomfortable with Kitsune’s intense gaze. Kitsune nodded, taking a seat. “Yes.” She said, curling her tail around her legs. “And you are Imperium’s niece?” Kitsune asked, even though she knew the answer already. The Capitol loved to see people waste time. Time to show The Capitol she was worthy of their wasted time.
[Continued from above] “Ok, Kitsune.” Cinere said, taking out a stack of flash cards. “I’m going to ask you a series of questions, and you’ll answer them as you wish. We have ten minutes!” She said, her eyes alight with a hungry glow. Kitsune nodded. “First question: your parade was a spectacle to behold! How did it feel to fly?” Kitsune blinked, a small smile on her face. “Well, when i first lifted off into the air, i was surprised. I felt as though a chain had started to crack, a chain that kept me earthbound beginning to weaken.” She said, moving a couple of her digital wings. She closed her eyes and pictured that moment, so clearly she felt she was there. “Then, when i finally took off into the sky, i felt like something snapped, like my chains had broken as i flew higher. To tell you the truth, i did not really want to come back down.” Kitsune continued, eyes still closed. “And I technically did not have to, but i knew the parade would eventually end, so i came back down to see so many people cheering, throwing me roses, even wanting to try on my outfit themselves, calling me “The Angel of District 7.” With a chuckle, she opened her eyes to look down at Cinere. “To answer your question plainly: flying felt like my chains had been broken, as if i was no longer earthbound, but free to walk the earth and sky, if but for that little time.” Cinere seemed pleased with this answer, and pulled up another card. “Here’s a good one!” She exclaimed, reading it with excitement and enthusiasm. “What is something you like about The Capitol from your time here?” Kitsune thought, then gave a chuckle. “The Capitol has everything it seems! Anything you can think of seems to be here, whether it be food, clothing, anything. I amazes me why you don’t all have wings like the ones from my parade.” Kitsune said, making herself sound cheery, and slightly envious. She gave a laugh, and Cinere laughed as well. “But if i had to pick one thing, i think it has to be the food.” She said. “Every day it’s a different kind of ramen or sushi roll for my lunch.” They both laughed a little, before Cinere pulled out another flash card. “Last question!” Cinere called. “If you could have any one thing in The Arena the moment you stepped inside, what would you have?” Kitsune thought for a moment, then opened her eyes. “Even if the wings did not function in the Arena, i would take the Parade wings from my costume into the Arena. Those wings felt as if they were a part of me when i flew on their digital feathers, as if i was not a cat, but a creature of a new age, a futuristic one, where all are able to fly as free as myself at that moment.“ “And yet, when I removed them, i felt as though they were still a part of me, as if i could still call upon them. As if i were my namesake, a shapeshifter, who could turn from something simple, to something inexplicable, in a heartbeat.” As Kitsune spoke, the ring around her middle split, and all of the golden holographic wing’s surrounded the two half circles. Kitsune shut her eyes, and with a flash, two long dragon wings of blue and gold spread behind her, the “skin” a golden contrast to the frames. The rings around her horns opened to form two smaller wings, hovering by the larger two’s “thumb”, and the rings around her wrists turned into similar wings by her ankles, like her parade costume’s blade boots. Cinere stared in amazement, as Kitsune’s wings quickly unfurled behind her, illuminating the fog and mist and casting a glow upon the wetlands around them, the reeds bending back with the breeze. “You may remove my wings, but they are still there when i call on them.” She said, giving her wings a slow flap to show off their magnificence. She turned to the camera, her digital gaze piercing though the lens to the people watching her. “Sponsor me,” she said. “And you will be shown a spectacle you have never seen before. You are smart, people of The Capitol. I know you will make the right choice. Praise to be Imperium.” With that, the buzzer went off, and Kitsune, with a bow, sweeping one wing in front of her along with her front leg, turned away from the awestruck people, satisfied with the effect. As she was led away, she said a silent blessing to her stylists for their beautiful, futuristic designs, and the tactful surprises they hid inside. - - Sorry i didn’t do artwork!
