Tw: Guns, blood, war, and Confederates. Also spam the flag. It might be off timing. Soo I really wanted to make this meme. So I did. It took forever. But anyway, if you want historical context here it is: So during the American Civil War, Virginia was divided, one side was very pro confederacy while the other was very pro union. Which is, present day West Virginia. Or at least most. Because there were some sections that were pro confederacy. So when Virginia seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy, western politicians opposed secession and wanted to create a new state or Virginia that would remain loyal to the Union. The U.S. immediately recognized the movement and we’re basically ready to accept this new proposed state. But little fun fact: the original name that was supposed to be West Virginia’s name was Kanawha and back during the Revolutionary War there was a proposed state called Westslyvania which was mostly West Virginia along with some extra territories. Anyway, back to the topic, West Virginia held a referendum on whether or not to become a state and obviously majority said yes and approved the constitution. Then Congress approved West Virginias existence and it officially became the 35th state in the union. However, West Virginia was still divided. The state may have supplied troops and supplies to the North, but they also did the same for the south. Again, because they were divided. Then the Confederacy lost and Virginia, along with the other rebellious states were forced to rejoin the union. Now you might be asking, so since the civil war was over, why didn’t they ever get back together? Well my friends. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0-V5na67Sg But anyway. That is a summary. I might make a meme on every state in union but at the moment I won’t. There is a tiny bit of lore in this cause you know me! I love lore!
