The earthquake severely damaged the CS No. 1 nuclear power plant deep underground, causing a large loss of coolant, rapid heating of the reactor core, and eventually meltdown and explosion. But the real disaster has just begun. The CS No. 2 Energy Nuclear Power Facility not far away was also hit by the shock wave, and its ALSR blast furnace safety system responsible for maintaining stability was seriously damaged, resulting in the failure of the emergency shutdown.
