Pixelite is a very versatile yet scarce material, and Geologists on Universe Alpha want to study it. Sadly, it's scarce, so you must go into a realm full of it. You can use some of it to help yourself, just make sure you have enough to be researched. Unbeknownst to you, the mines were closed off, so expect to encounter the guards of the cave. They will not be happy to see you.
MINI UPDATE: reduced spawntimes replaced health with new revive ability! Not only can you keep your pixelite, but the explosion from your starship will destroy any pixelisks near you!
