This story is dedicated to all the anonymous, unmentioned tributes that lost their lives in The Hunger Games The tribute ran from the cornucopia, panting as the icy wind bit at her skin. Her hands were empty, because she knew that no amount of supplies could save her now. Nothing could save her now. From the moment the girl’s name had been drawn out of that dreadful dome, she had known. When they had asked for volunteers and she had let herself hope, for just a second, only to be greeted with the soft sound of wind filling the silence, she had known. The Capitol was setting her up to d!e. But despite that, she wanted to survive. Even if it was for another minute. She knew that she couldn’t win, she hadn’t even let herself hope. Because the feeling of yet another knif3 being thrown into her heart as she was let down, left behind, again, was too pa!nfvl to bear. And nobody would care if she d!ed. Nobody would even acknowledge it. Many tributes d!ed each year during the cornucopia bl00dbath, and nobody ever gave them a second thought. She had never thought she would be one of them. She had wished for too much. But was it really to much, to wish that she wouldn't be the first person to d!e? Maybe it was because she was tired from training the day before, or the thought of the games themselves had worn her out, or maybe the games had really taken a toll on her. But really, it was because she already knew that she had lost. Not to the other tributes but to the Games themselves. She had, unknowingly, become a puppet in the Capitol's show, a laughingstock stuck in a prison with no way out. Because she didn’t see the d@gger, didn’t even hear the cries of agony as many others fell victim to it. The tribute had thought dy!ng would be p@!nful, honestly. But it only hvrt for a moment, and as she fell to the ground, into the peaceful dark abyss, she heard the soft sound of the gong, so distant, or maybe it was her imagination, as she breathed a sigh of relief… It was over. Finally over.
