trapped- a short story by me
Serena and her best friend, Ariana, found themselves standing in front of an abandoned mansion, unsure of what they were about to embark on. Serena had always been a bit hesitant when it came to Ariana's wild ideas, but this time, her hesitation was stronger than ever. As they stood outside the eerie-looking house, Serena muttered, "Maybe we should reconsider-" Before Serena could finish her sentence, Ariana interrupted her excitedly. "Let's go in! C'mon, hurry!" she exclaimed, darting towards the porch. Serena reluctantly followed, her unease growing with each step. Ariana, always the adventurous one, opened the creaky front door slowly, giggling with a mix of enthusiasm and mischief. As they entered the dilapidated mansion, Serena couldn't help but shiver as goosebumps crawled down her spine. The decaying walls and dusty furnishings sent a chill through her body. "Arianaaa..." Serena groaned, her voice filled with both frustration and fear. However, her pleas fell on deaf ears as Ariana continued to explore the dark and gloomy house. After what felt like hours of aimlessly wandering through the mansion, Serena decided she had had enough. Determined to leave, she made her way towards the door. "Ariana, I'm leaving-" she started, but her attempt to escape was thwarted by the door handle refusing to budge. Panic started to set in. "Ariana?" Serena called out, her voice shaky. Her best friend came running into the room, a mixture of confusion and worry in her eyes. "What's wrong?" Ariana asked in a concerned tone as she saw Serena pulling on the door to no avail. "We're... we're locked in?" Serena stammered, her voice trembling with fear. Ariana pulled out her phone only to find the words 'NO SERVICE' mocking them from the screen. "Ugh, are you kidding me?!" Ariana exclaimed, her frustration evident. Being an explorer at heart, Ariana always relied on her phone for emergencies, and if she couldn't use it now, she knew she was truly in trouble. Desperate for a solution, Serena pulled out her phone, hoping for a miracle. Yet, to her dismay, it also displayed the dreaded 'NO SERVICE' message. With a flicker of hope, Serena dialed 9-1-1, hoping to explain their predicament. "Hello?" a voice answered on the other end of the line. "Yeah, hi, umm...my name is Serena- Serena Laren. My friend and I are kind of stuck in the old mansion on the hill, and-" Before Serena could finish her sentence, the person on the line abruptly hung up, leaving both Serena and Ariana bewildered and frightened. Ariana, usually full of optimism, began to lose hope. Serena, still clinging to a glimmer of possibility, dialed her mother's number. "Hello?" Serena's mom answered. "Mom!" Serena exclaimed, her voice filled with both relief and urgency. "Serena? Where are you?" her mother questioned, concern lacing her voice. "In the old mansion upon the hill," Serena replied. "Why? Okay, look, I'm coming to pick you up, okay?" "Okay," Serena replied, desperately hoping her mom would arrive soon and rescue them from their predicament. However, as the hours wore on, her mother never showed up, and Serena and Ariana were left to fend for themselves. Days turned into months, and months into years, but Serena and Ariana's spirits remained trapped within the mansion, forevermore. The abandoned house became their eternal prison, a reminder of their ill-fated decision and the consequences they faced for their curiosity and adventure. Their spirits wandered the halls, their laughter and footsteps echoing through the empty rooms, unresolved and forever longing to escape.
