another random halo short story. this one takes place in the halo infinite training grounds, its capture the flag. the gunfire didn't stop. it echoed through the city over and over. the sound of heavy footsteps came nearer. spartan 472 looked around the corner before quickly ducking. a hydra missile flew over his red helmet, slamming into the wall behind him. the blue spartan across the corridor was aiming again and let another missile fly. it exploded against 472's shield as he looked down the scope of his br75. the battle rifle sang its deadly song, and the other spartan fell to the ground, hydra clattering to the ground. 472 looked around, the gunshots still singing. his shields recharged as he picked up the hydra, clamping it to his back. he reloaded his br75, then continued running. he turned a corner and quickly dropped to a slide. another blue spartan, with a gravity hammer, was approaching. 472 barely dodged the hammers first strike, rolling to the side. but the hammer came down again. it slammed the crimson spartan to the ground, shields gone, armor in lock. this was only training after all. when he 're-spawned' his gaze slept toward the blue marker on his hud. one of his team had the enemy flag. 472 set off, sprinting. when he found the flag bearer, he saw the situation to be very bad. 695, the maroon colored spartan who held the flag, was coming his way with two blue's on his tail. 816 was sword dueling another behind them. 695 threw the flag to him and turned around to deal with the other two. he snatched the flag, turned right around, and ran toward their base. mistakes. so many mistakes. his hud flashed red and his A.I. yelled to him "they have our flag spartan, you have to get it back." he grunted and altered his course. mistakes. another blue. the enemy was in front of him now, each with the others flag. he could see her tag, 603, on her armor. she lunged, swinging the flag like an axe. he dodged easily and struck her in the back, taking down her shields. she returned the blow. it was last strike now. next attack wins. she spun and swung at him again. this time he dropped the flag and lifted his arm. inside her helmet, her eyes grew wide as she saw the purple glow of the repulser. it threw both her, and the red flag into a wall, which locked her armor. 472 whirled and placed the blue flag onto the pedestal, claiming victory for his team. she watched through her locked up visor as his team congratulated him, and her anger burned bright.
