up in the attic- chapter one
I went up the stairs to the attic. It had happened again. "ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴏɪꜱᴇ," It had happened again. A shiver went up my spine as i slowly opened the attic door. ʀᴇʟᴀx. I told myself. ɪᴛ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴘʀᴏʙᴀʟʏ ᴏɴʟʏ ᴀ ʙᴀᴛ, ʀɪɢʜᴛ? I looked around the room. The wind battered against the window, making me jump. My heart pounded so hard that the neighbor dog could probaly hear it as I walked to the center of the room. A small sheet covered most of and old mirror. I reached out and pulled it off. Words were written on it. 'No longer home,' and 'This damp, dusty, stale aired room...there's something about it that-' the rest of the words had been smudged, and become unreadable. "Lara? Is everything alright up there?" My mother called from downstairs. "Yeah, It was just a bat, I think." I called. But ᴡʜʏ did i get this eerie feeling that something or ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴏɴᴇ was watch- ing me? I took a good look around the room. Nothing was anywhere. Not the window, Not the ceiling, Not near a broken dresser, Not the mirror-ʙᴜᴛ ᴡᴀɪᴛ-ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ was on the mirror. I squinted, trying to figure out ᴡʜᴀᴛ it was. A ᴘᴇʀꜱᴏɴ. But where ɪꜱ that person?? I looked behind me. ɴᴏᴛʜɪɴɢ. And then it hit me. ᴀ ɢʜᴏꜱᴛ. "Lara, dear, dinner is ready," My mother called to me. "Just a minute, Mom!" I went over to the area the person was in, the floorboards creaking underneath my feet. Then I heard a noise. Footsteps. My heart thumped. Then- the attic door swung open. "Lara? Dinner's ready," My older sister, Stephanie, had come to get me. "Uh-Yeah," I followed my sister downstairs. I awoke in the middle of the night, feeling a ghostly presence. ᴛʜᴇ ᴀᴛᴛɪᴄ. That was the first thing I thought of. I grabbed a flashlight out of my drawer, and made my way up to the attic. When I reached the door, I slowly opened it. It was dark, the only light coming from my small flashlight. I shined the light near the mirror. The person-whoever it was, was still there. "H-hello?" I managed to mutter out. My throught became dry. ᴛʜɪꜱ ɪꜱ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴍʏ ʜᴏʀʀᴏʀ ʙᴏᴏᴋꜱ ᴄᴏᴍᴇ ᴛʀᴜᴇ. I thought, feeling a shiver come crawling back. I felt a cold hand on my shoulder. "W-who are you?" fear was blocking up my voice. A soft, ghostly whisper spoke, "Elaine..." "E-elaine?" I stammered. The ghost moved across the room, to the mirror. "W-where do you come f-from?" The ghost flew out the window, not bothering to answer my question. "E-elaine?" I walked over to the window, the floorboards creaking. The small, torn curtains blew as the wind flew inside the attic. The ghost flew back in the attic as i closed the window. Suddenly, as i shined my flashlight over to the wall, it flickered, and the light went out. Cold air blew all around me, and every inch of small light, became dark. It seemed this ghost didn't want me here. "E-elaine, please, stop, I- I'll..." dizziness washed over me, and everything went black. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Up in the Attic, Chapter one, has come to an end!
