“Ooh, we should be authors. We can write all sorts of books. Children's books, novels, all sorts of types.” They both thought that this was a good idea, and Khalia pulled out a notebook and some pens. “Hmm… We shouldn’t start with ‘Once upon a time’ , but what should we start with?” Avaniele said “How about ‘My life hasn’t always been like this’ . It sounds good, right?” Khalia said, “Sure. That should work. Oh, we’re almost at school. C’mon.” They hopped off of their stop, and started towards their school. It was silent for a while until Ava asked a question. “What do you think is for breakfast?” “I dunno. Probably cereal or something like that.” Replied Khalia. They finally reached the school, and walked in as their art teacher, Ms. Camilla, was holding the door. “Hi girls! Good morning!” She said. The girls responded “Hi Ms. Camilla! Can’t wait to see you in class.” As they walked down the hall silently, Khalia saw Octavius as he walked by. Octavius saw Khalia and said “Hi, Khalia, how are you…?” Khalia could only muster a small “Hi, I’m good.” Then the girls scurried past and went to their lockers. Ava stifled a giggle, and opened her locker. Their lockers, sadly, were three apart. After they put away their backpacks, they went into the classroom and sat down. Sadly, their teacher, Ms. Denece (Whom students called Ms. Denece the menace) , didn’t let them sit next to each other. Ava sat next to Max, and Khalia sat next to Emberly. Ava hated Max, but she put up with him just for class. She had even punched him right in the face once! It was when Max called Khalia such a bad name that I won’t even say it. Khalia and Emberly were ok friends, and they were kind to each other, but didn’t sit next to each other at lunch. Ms. Denece said “Turn to page 934 in your workbook. Don’t forget to do the problem on the board before we start.” As Khalia started to open her book, Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenk, whom people called Roshandia, “accidently” knocked over her water bottle. “Oh no!” She said sarcastically as she snickered to her friend, whom I called her Roshandia’s minion, Skylar. “It seems as though I have knocked over Khalia’s water bottle!” I swear I saw Skylar say “Dud” under her breath. Ms. Denece said “Class, class. Settle down. And Khalia, get a paper towel!”. As Khalia went to grab the paper towel, she started feeling infuriated. Why is it always me? What made Rhoshandia feel that way? What did I do, and if so, why is it my fault? Khalia felt her fingertips start to burn, her face get red, and she just couldn’t hold it in anymore. All of a sudden, a wispy glow started floating around the room. Khalia looked around, following the wisp, trying to figure out where it was coming from. She felt a sudden chill, then looked down at her fingers. That's where it was coming from! Then, instead of feeling scared, she felt powerful. No one else seemed to notice what was happening. She smiled slyly. Then, it disappeared as soon as it had started.
