Instructions

Chapter 1 A train whistle blows as me, my Mum and Sis walk through to platform nine-and-three-quarters. I rub my eyes, brushing away the tears that were threatening to spill over. "Come on, come on." Says Tina nudging me toward the train. She was trying to hide it, but I knew that she was just as sad as me. Dad had to go to work, but he had left a note on my bed before he left. He sometimes was gone for days, or even weeks at a time. I sigh, gather my bags, and hop onto the train to look for the carriage, but I look back and blow Mum and my sister Rose a kiss. Mum waves at me with happy tears in her eyes. I force myself to look away and find a carriage. I wander down the carriages a little, then spot one with a blonde-haired girl sitting down and gazing out of the window looking bored. I slide the compartment door open a fraction and ask, "Erm, are you saving any seats here?" She notices me and shakes her head quickly. "Go ahead." She says, gesturing to an empty seat. I flash her a smile and heave my case onto the storage compartment. We sit awkwardly in silence for a bit until the train starts. "Anything from the trolley dears?" Says the trolley lady, wheeling her cart down the rows of carriages. I think for a moment before saying, "One licorice wand please." We exchange the treat and money, and the other girl gets a sugar quill. The trolley lady rolls on, and I feel a small pricking sensation on my neck. The other girl jumps and says in a quiet voice, "There's- There's something on your neck?" Saying it as more of a question than a statement. I reach up to touch my neck to find something thin and small clinging to the collar of my shirt with bony fingers. "Eddie?! I told you to stay inside my case!" I whisper to the Bowtruckle, picking him off my shirt. The other girl starts laughing as he clambers up my arm and starts crawling around in my hair. I grin. "What's your name?" I ask. "Carina Malfoy. Call me Cari though." She says. We smile at each other, and I say, "I'm Cadence Scamander. And this little troublemaker-" I say, lifting Eddie off my head, "Is Eddie." I finish. "A Bowtruckle? He's so cute!" She cooes. I hand him over to Cari and he clambers all over her. We spend the rest of the train ride sharing stories and eating sweets. The train whistle goes as the we pull into the train station. All the students pile out of the train, and there's a tall man calling "Firs' years, over 'ere!" Holding a lantern that illuminates the station. Me and Cari head over with big grins on our faces. Finally, I was at Hogwarts.
