Hey! I'm Forest, Forest O'Connor. I love horses. I come from a small ranch in the middle of nowhere Nebraska and somehow I ended up at the most elite riding academy in all of North America. The best of the best riders get invited to this prestigious academy in Canada. One day I was riding in the front arena when the mail-man came by and startled Coconut, my horse. I steered her over to the end of the pathway before hopping down and opening the mailbox. As I leafed through the bills and other letters, Coconut pawed impatiently at the ground. Just as I was giving up hope that there was anything interesting, I found a thick envelope addressed to me closed with a navy wax seal depicting a shield with a "P" in the center and two rearing horses on either side. I hopped up on Coconut and rode back to the house, hitching her outside. I burst into the house, not bothering to take my riding boots off and raced into the kitchen where my mom was cooking dinner. "Hey mom!" I hurriedly said as she stared questioningly at my muddy boots. I tossed her all of the letters except the one of interest. I sat at the table and carefully peeled the wax seal upwards. My mom put her hand on my shoulders and glanced down at the envelope. I pulled the first piece of paper out of the overstuffed envelope and read aloud. "Dear Ms O'Connor, You have been selected to compete in the before-school trials. Prestige Stables, is an elite riding academy only for the best riders. We have expressed interest in your young talent and invite you to come visit our campus in Canada and compete in our trials to see if you are capable of such great feats as those worthy of attending Prestige Stables. We have enclosed more information and some other items that you may find useful. Sincerely, Headmaster Brian Fernsby I looked up at my mother full of excitement but only found a sad look on her face. "What? Did you not hear me?" I hurriedly asked. "Pea, we would have to fly up to Canada, flights out of the country are a lot of money. Not to mention transport for Coconut, she's a big horse. I'm sorry." she said and she turned back to whatever she was making on the stove. I reached back into the envelope for some shred of hope and found three small slips of paper. I pulled them out and looked at the first one. <-------------------------------------------------------------------------> < Flight 708 Passenger: Forest O'Connor (minor) > < 9:00 AM-2:30 PM > < Omaha Ne. -> Vancouver Ca. > < Boarding group: A Seat: A8 Position: 1 > < ║▌│║▌│║ > < ║▌│║▌│║ > <-------------------------------------------------------------------------> It was a plane ticket! There was one for her mom too! The last slip was a ticket to transport Coconut. She held them up to her mom who stared on in wonder. "Well," her mom said "Pack your bags sweet pea! We're going to Canada!
