“Bye mum!” I shout as I walk out the front door of our house. “Bye Lana! Be safe!” She yells back. I finally fully leave the house and get into my car. I’ve been driving around a lot recently, so I’ve pretty much gotten used to the roads here. I quickly turn my car on, and start driving down the road. It’s pretty dark outside since it’s winter, but I can manage. As I continue driving, I pull up to a stop light when two beaming headlights quickly begin getting larger and larger. I keep staring until the lights flood my eyes, and then I can’t see, or process anything anymore. I can hear people slamming on their breaks and getting out of their cars. I’m now laying on the hard pavement of the road, and some random woman comes up to me and picks her phone up. Someone else comes up to me- a boy… he looks familiar, but I can’t tell anything apart from anything. There are now new lights entering my view. They’re red and blue. I like those colors. I- can’t think, my brain is flooding with new information. Then I pass out. I wake up in a white bed in a white and blue room. I close, and then reopen my eyes slowly, and turn my head to the right. I see mum. “Mum? Where am I?” I ask her. “Oh! You’re awake! I’ll call the doctor,” she responds, not answering my question. “Well, where am I?” I ask again, slowly getting more and more agitated. “You’re in the hospital. You’re ok,” She says, trying to reassure me. I’m not too convinced by her act though. Everything hurts. “Where’s Alex?” I question. Looking left and right to try to find my brother. “He’s at school, sweetie,” she answers. “Why? I thought he’s homeschooled,” I tell her, questioning everything I know. “Well, yes, he was,” she says. “What?! Why not?! Are we even in London anymore?!” I shout, now enraged by the situation. “No, we’re not? You should know this, Lana,” she says, trying to remain calm. Just after that, the doctor enters the room. “Hello there. Is this Alana Worth?” the doctor asks me. “Yeah,” I pout, crossing my arms as I stare the doctor dead in the eyes. “Why am I here?” “Alana, you’ve gotten into a bit of a car crash,” the doctor tells me. “You’ve injured your spinal cord pretty severely.” “Oh,” I say in a slight whisper voice. “Well what will happen to me?” “We’re not exactly sure, though you're lucky that you’re alive and breathing right now,” the doctor tells me. “If your injury doesn’t recover, you could be left paralyzed.” “Paralyzed?!” my voice raises to a shout. I’m not sure why, but I then start to cry. “I can’t be paralyzed! But Madeline needs me! The cheer squad needs me!” “Sweetheart, we’re not in London anymore,” my mother tells me, putting her hand on my knee. “Well why not!” I shout at her. “We’ve moved. To Massachusetts,” she answers, trying to calm me down. “Was this Alex’s idea?” I ask her, my voice reduces back to a normal talking voice. “No it wasn’t. It was mine,” Mom responds. I stay silent for a little while. “Is Madeline going to come visit me?” I ask her a few minutes later. “I’ve told her what had happened, and she said she wanted to come down here but I’m not sure if she actually is,” Mom explains. I really hope Madeline does come down to see me. “Oh. Ok. Well I’m kinda sleepy,” I tell her, yawning as I shut my eyes slowly.
