[The Woodcarver's Curse] 4 The next day, Elaine wasn't at school. "Where could she be?" Eden wondered. "I have no idea," confessed Audrey. "Neither do I," I admitted. After school, we saw Elaine in the park as we walked back home. "Hi, Elaine!" Audrey exclaimed. "Hi everyone!" Elaine smiled. "Why weren't you at school today?" I asked. "Well, my mother is in the hospital, so I skipped school," Elaine answered. "Oh no! Is she okay?" Eden asked in sympathy. "Yes, the doctor said she might be able to leave the hospital tomorrow!" Elaine said with a smile. "How did she get hurt?" Audrey asked. "Car crash," Elaine said. "What! My mother was hurt in a car crash days before!" Audrey exclaimed. Eden and I looked at each other. Would the same thing happen to Mother? After a while, they parted ways and Eden and I went home. There, they did their homework and nighttime routine. It was getting late, but Mother wasn't home yet. "Let's call her," Eden suggested. "Okay," I agreed as I dialed Mother's number on my phone. "Hello?" I smiled when I heard her voice at the end of the line. "Hi, Mother. When are you going to come back home?" I asked. "I'll be back in a jiffy, don't worry," she said, "Why don't you and Eden sleep first?" "Sure," I said and she hung off. "What did she say?" Eden asked. "She told us to sleep first," I said. "Why is she so late? What is she doing?" Eden cornered me with questions. "I have no idea, she didn't reveal anything else..." "Let's sleep first, I'm sleepy," Eden ended the conversation. The next morning at school, Mother (who was our class teacher) didn't come into our classroom, instead, our Chinese teacher, Mrs. Lee came in. "Hi, Girls! I'll be your subsitute today since Miss Ng is in the hospital after a car crash," Mrs. Lee informed. Eden and I exchanged worried looks as Mrs. Lee began the lesson.
Do you like the new thumbnail? This time, it has Miss Ng in it! Can you tell she is their mother by just looking at the picture? They are so alike! I respect both Miss Ng and Mrs. Lee! Don't worry, I'm not replacing Miss Ng.
