You might notice that they seem to look the same as the very first life. That is, until anything passes in front of them! Then, they extend their deadly spike into their prey, tearing through their cell wall and sucking out their insides. They mostly target young cells, with the older ones having a shell that their relatively soft spines aren't adapted to penetrating yet. However, they can still feed on chemicals directly from the thermal vents in times when prey is low. Their lifespan is indeterminate. However, recently they have developed flagella to help catch prey and rudimentary eye spots, with the consequence that their chemoreceptors are slightly less tuned. Now they can pursue their prey, and this new form of predatoria will eventually replace their floating ancestors, swimming to wherever there is life.
