They were shaking all over, very obviously full of fear. All facades were dropped at the face of the Warden. “Do you know why your mother was arrested?” The small cat just shook their head. Then there was a short moment of silence before the cat finally spoke. “N-no, she never t-told me.” The Warden’s expression was unreadable in the dark of the interview room. She continued. “Do you wish she hadn’t done what she did?” This answer came quick. The brown cat’s face seemed to hold some sort of longing for something more. “Y-yes.” Again, the Warden was unreadable in the dark. She continued on. “What does ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ mean to you?” The cat’s face seemed confused for a moment. Then it returned to the same scared expression. They seemed to be coming up with a response. “R-right and wrong. Right m-means doing something good and that is—“ A pause in the cats words. “morally ok. Wron-ng means doing something bad t-that hurts others and sometimes yourself t-that is not morally ok.” Yet again the Warden’s questions was continued. The next question came along. “How has the Panopticon been treating you?” The cat’s expression changed to one of more fear. It didn’t seem to know how to answer the question. “U-uh-ummm… It’s b-been treating me good I-I guess.” The small cat seemed uncomfortable and fearful. There seemed to be some lies in the statement. Nevertheless the Warden continued. “Is your mother guilty or innocent?” The cat seemed more sad now. Their ears seemed to flop down. “Guilty. S-she w-was guilty and punished f-for for that.” The cat covered their mouth. They looked like they felt bad for revealing that info. The Warden spoke one line to break the questions. “Few more questions then you may leave.” The small brown cat just nodded weakly. “Are you being taken care of now?” The cat nodded their head slowly. The fear was still there but the nod seemed less shaky. “Y-yes. Andy takes c-care of me. I like her.” The Warden continued as before, not breaking the stream of questions like she did a moment ago. “Have you ever done something bad?” The cat hesitated in fear. They seemed to be thinking. The Warden just stared at the young cat. “I-I don’t know… You tell-l me?” The stream of questions was interrupted one final time. “One more question. Do you wish you were out of the panopticon?” The small cat just froze. The same looking of longing appeared on their face. The cat seemed to say something about it being a strange question, but it was too quiet and shaky to fully comprehend. “Y-yes. I-I want to be out there for the first t-time… in my li-life.” There. The interview was over. “That is all. You may leave.” A single sigh of relief left the small cat. [end] ⚠︎ - - -
Gambit is such an emotional wreck when it comes to the Warden herself. It can’t even pretend to be a happy and bubbly child or try any manipulation.
