Chapter Three Hell Of A Dream Someone knocked on the door. Hard. Loud enough for the school to go quiet. Me, Kai and Alyssa looked at each other. We knew who that was. Justine Barcley. The principal's daughter. Ms Barcley’s daughter. She’s the school bully, and she’s in the same class as me. She walks the halls like she owns the place, and she does. She gets away with anything, for she is the principal’s daughter. Everyone fears her, but they always fear a 29-year-old woman more. ‘It’s too early for this.’ I thought because it was only 6:57 in the morning. “No. Not happening!” Said Kai. He ran up to the door and locked it, making a book-quake in the process. He was reading four Charles Dickens novels at once, eager to find information on each character. “Kai! Why would you lock out your own girlfriend?” Said Justine, in this fake sweet voice. “No! You are my childhood girlfriend! You are no longer part of my life now! Go away!” Kai shouted through the door. I sighed. I used my telekinesis to open the door. “Don’t question it!” I mouthed to Kai. He nodded. “She will stay and knock until the door has a hole in it if we keep the door closed, and she will go if we open it for her and let her talk about whatever she wants to talk about!” I added, still mouthing. “Sophie! Excellent choice!” Said Justine, coming into our dorm and walking to me. “You know, I know some things that you don’t even know! Did you know that you’re a loser? Did you know that Kai and Alyssa only hang out with you because they feel sorry for you? Did you know that you don’t belong here? Did you know that you are a freak?” The last sentence hit me harder than any of them. Kai and Alyssa immediately noticed my tears and pushed Justine out of the room. We waited for a few moments, and then we heard her stomping to her royal dorm, Dorm Room 400. “Ugh, that girl better stay far away from us!” Said Alyssa. She walked over to me and sat down next to me. “You ok, Sophs?” “Yeah, I’m fine… I just… I just wish Justine would stop bullying me and leave me alone! Why does she always target me?!” “Well, she targets you because you don’t side with her and you are different from other humans.” Replied Kai. “And she spares anyone who sides with her. But we won’t ever side with her, not now, not ever.” I sighed. I knew that he’s right. I showed it, and I thought it too. But I didn’t want to side with her. She’s going to force me to do evil things against Kai and Alyssa, and I didn’t want to hurt them or be mean to them, they were my best friends after all, and I didn’t want to lose them. The bell rang for light out. Lights out was always at 22:00, for some strange reason. I guess Ms Barcley wanted to give us all two hours to get ready. Anyway, as soon as I closed my eyes, I became dead to the world. And when I’m dead to the world, I either had a good dream, a nightmare, a weird dream, or no dream at all. And tonight, it was a nightmare… I woke up at 6:30, like all the others, for the wake up and get ready for school bell goes at that time every morning, even on weekends. But something felt off. I got up and sat on my bed. I saw Alyssa and Kai giggling and laughing on the other side of the room. And then, they point at me. That’s when I realise it: they are laughing at me. They are bullying me. They have sided with Justine. This was my third biggest fear (Justine was second and Ms Barcley was a well earned first): losing my best friends and seeing them turn against me. I ran out of the dorm, and suddenly I was in Ms Barcley’s office, dressed in my school uniform, no longer in my night dress. “Sophie Cornu, you disrespectful child!” She shouted. “Kai, Alyssa and Justine have told me you have planted many tricks in the school garden! I have no choice but to send you to St Trouts School for the Unstable! And they have accepted my request!” I sank into the ground, a black hole sucking me up. I looked at what I’m wearing; a black, long sleeved, turtleneck dress with my black school boots and black tights. I was outside a haunted looking mansion, the place I thought is St Trouts. Lightning strike, and I was teleported to a living room, scrubbing the floor, dressed in a maid outfit. “FASTER!” A teacher yelled at me, hitting me with her cane. “YOU NEED TO WAKE UP NOW! THE BELL IS RINGING!” I looked at her, confused. Did she just say that I need to wake up? I closed my eyes and then, BAM! I’m back in the real world, pillow on the floor next to me, covers twisted around my legs. I sat up in a panic. There was Alyssa, fully dressed, and there was the bathroom light on, Kai getting ready. “I… I thought that…” I said, panting. “You don’t need to explain.” Said Alyssa. “You talk in your sleep. Always.” “I do not!” I said loudly and goofily. We both laughed. Kai came out of the bathroom, in his uniform, at that very moment and saw us laughing. He looked at me, then at Alyssa, then back at me, and back at Alyssa. “What are you laughing about? Is it the normal ‘Sophie talks in her sleep’ argument that has finally become funny?” He asked. “Yeah! It is!” Me and Alyssa said at the same time. “And you, Sophie, better get ready for breakfast and school before Ms Barcley uses the speakers.” Alyssa reminded me. I nodded, and ran to the bathroom, turned on the shower, sprinkle myself with soap, quickly shower, then pull on clean clothes (same skirt, same boots, same tie, everything else clean), and ran out of the bathroom. Kai laughed at me, then Alyssa. I started getting annoyed. “What are you laughing at?!” I shouted. “Sophie. Honey. Bestie. You’ve never gotten ready in two minutes! It usually takes you about fifteen minutes!” Laughed Alyssa. That’s when I realised it. She was right. I’ve never gotten ready this fast. Continued… in the comments…
