Opalpaw's eyes opened slowly. Her head ached. She groaned and sat up. Wait. where was she? she looked around frantically and realized she was in a cave, the walls made of shards of black gems. She tried to remember what she'd been doing before she was here. She and Puddlepaw had been- Puddlepaw! She scrambled to her paws on the slippery stone. He was nowhere to be seen. / Where could he be? / she thought. / Wait. Where am I?! / She looked around the space for any trace of an exit, but she saw nothing. A whoosh sounded from behind her. She whirled around. "Who's there?" A ghostly figure flickered into view perched on top of the biggest crystal shard, which had a flat top. It was an opaque white-ish that reflected the colors around it. It cackled without opening its mouth. "KLEPTO," it said, it's mouth not moving. "I AM CALLED THAT." "That doesn't explain who you are," Opalpaw said, narrowing her eyes. "What are you? Where did you come from?" It's mouth stayed shut. "KLEPTO. I AM CALLED THAT." It echoed. "I AM FROM NOWHERE." "No one can be from nowhere," she countered. "NOWHERE IS THE NAME OF MY ORIGIN-PLACE." It had not moved from where it was sitting. Opalpaw frowned. "Okay, well where is here?" "MY HOARD," Klepto hissed gleefully. "YOU WILL NOT LEAVE. THIS IS WHERE I TAKE THINGS I LOVE." "What?" she said, shocked. "Can't I at least stay with Puddlepaw? And... wait, did you take my sisters, Diamondpaw and Sapphirepaw?" It giggled again. It still hadn't opened its mouth at all. It was really starting to unnerve Opalpaw. " HM, THE WHITE ONE KNOWS MY TREASURES." It paused, thinking. "YES, NO PROBLEM WOULD RESULT IN FOUR OF YOU TOGETHER. WAIT A FEW MOMENTS." "Wait-!" Opalpaw cried, but it was already gone. She was alone. Worse yet, she was a prisoner. And she had no idea how to escape.
