What a biased telling of the story. This is like the PBS publishing a documentary about this "From the British perspective", but it's all just the American perspective lmao- What a load of rubbish. The American Revolution was one of the worst things to happen to the world, lighting a flame that would destroy all hope for stability or peace. We have to start from the beginning, in the Seven Years War. It all happened BECAUSE of the American Colonists. They wanted more land, and when the British relented to help, the American Colonists disobeyed orders, killed someone important, and started the massive war. All those British lives lost, and all that debt, for what? So greedy rich Americans could enslave more and own more property? The Native Americans proved to be too difficult to deal with, so the British decided protecting them as Royal Subjects instead of fighting them was a much better idea. The American public was furious. "Who was this government to tell us who we can and can't slaughter?". On top of that, to pay for the war the Americans started, the British started taxing everyone. They taxed their own people the heaviest, and give the Americans very minor taxes. However, the spoiled Americans, who had autonomy and basically no taxes before than, were completely outraged. "Who was this government to force us to pay the debts we owe?"- I should mention, that at this time, the East India Company was struggling hard. They couldn't pay their bills, and if they went bankrupt, the British economy would collapse, so to prevent that, they allowed the EIC to CUT THE PRICE OF THEIR TEA, since they were forced to artificially inflate it, so American producers could compete. They thought this would make the colonists happy, but no. After the British government kept trying to appease the colonists, by lowering and changing taxes, they eventually gave up. The colonists could not be negotiated with, so they switched up strategies. They cracked down hard, thinking that would make the colonists calm down, but alas, no. The Coercive Acts, nicknamed the "intolerable acts" were actually very fair, despite meant as punishment. First, Massachusetts had to pay for ROBBING AND DESTROYING PROPERTY WHILE BLAMING IT ON THE NATIVES, and until they finished paying, Boston's port would be temporarily closed. Next, the colony of Massachusetts would lose its autonomy to prevent further rebellion. Next, criminals would be tried in Britain, so Boston couldn't go "Welp, despite murdering someone, they are from Boston, so we'll let you off the hook :3". Next, to keep British troops in the area to prevent rebellion, they had the Americans house those soldiers, which was common practice. Finally, the British gave some lands from Ohio to Quebec, which was the FINAL STRAW for the colonists. Americans leaders tried to seem reasonable by sending out a compromise to the British, though at the same time, they intercepted letters from the founding fathers saying 'We'd never agree to the compromise lol, it's pointless, but the British are idiots'. Americans like to act like Britain was an absolute monarchy. It wasn't. The British monarch had NO power at all, like it is today. They also act like asking for representation in Parliament wasn't that much, but that was HUGE. No other colonies had representation, the British gave them almost complete autonomy, and most British people couldn't vote for their own government, why should some selfish aristocrats overseas be allowed to vote? The ONLY reason the Americans wanted "representation" is to rule the Empire themselves. They had autonomy, and the government obviously listened to their protests, they only cared about ruling the world for themselves. The rest of the war happened as you know. Basically, the only reason the Americans won is because the Spanish and French fought Britain to make them weak. They saw America as a way to dominate the world, stealing colonies from Britain. Throughout the war, the American Colonists acted like absolute barbarians. They were heavily racist, causing almost all non-whites to side with the British. Most colonists didn't want this war, in fact, British rule was so well-liked, that both slaves and slave owners fought for the British. Americans would slaughter every Native American tribe they could, with more brutality than the Natives ever showed to them. This included innocent tribes, who never attacked the Americans. Men, women, children. All died horribly by the hands of racists. All who disagreed with the rebels were boiled alive, paraded like animals and beat to death. This included mostly Loyalists, who were almost all peaceful. American "patriots" would just one day show up at your door if you said something they didn't like, and they would kill your entire family.
After the Revolutionary War, all the fears of the Loyalists were realised. The Native Americans were almost entirely wiped out, the country fell into anarchy, America broke almost every part of its treaty, etc. At the end of the war, all the British cared about was protecting their loyal subjects. They made the Americans swear to not harm any Loyalists. Right after the Americans signed this, they slaughtered every known Loyalist, and the British couldn't do anything but watch. Before the Consitution, America was a mess. It was so bad, the PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE, fought against the new government to bring back the British. Everyone suffered from American Independence, and America likes to pretend like that never happened. America also gave up on liberty, freedom, etc, almost instantly. America further more taxed Americans FAR more than the British ever taxed them, and the government gave the average American even less representation than when under the British. America was so much better under Britain. The British Government had the interests of their people at heart. Despite slaves not being able to vote, the British Parliament outlawed slavery far before anyone else. Was Britain perfect? No. I would love if the Empire had done good for everyone all the time. But to not even try to fix it, and instead, destroy it, is uncivilised. If I could, I would go back in time and prevent the Revolutionary War, but I cannot. So instead, we must all work with the cards we were given. America is a country, so let's use it for good. I realized I forgot to mention the Boston Massacre, where British soldiers were attacked by civilians and mistakenly opened fire, believing their lives were on the line, and everyone lying the captain ordered it, who was found INNOCENT. And how about the "Shot Heard Around The World", which evidence points to being shot by a drunk American nearby, trying to kill a British soldier.
