The oppression and discrimination of Black people throughout history has plagued this country for centuries and has not yet ended. The Black Lives Matter movement strives to create progress towards a more equal and just society. The recent deaths of Black Americans such as George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many others (some of whose killings we may never know about) have newly highlighted the disgusting system of institutional racism in the United States (and in the entire world), as well as the way that the institution of the police was built on white supremacy. Protests that have broken out across the country to demand justice for these innocent victims have been met with the police brutality that they were meant to fight. We must not accept this. The Black Lives Matter movement is not a temporary "trend," but an important and necessary outcry for justice and equality. You can help in several ways, whether that be by protesting and donating or simply by signing petitions and watching videos that donate their ad revenue to the movement (see the Notes and Credits for links to some of these videos). We cannot stay silent. We will not stay silent. Black Lives Matter.
